Site Identification of the GNSS Monument Site Name : Hokitika Airport Four Character ID : HOKI Monument Inscription : IERS DOMES Number : 50211M001 CDP Number : Monument Description : PILLAR Height of the Monument : 2.0 Monument Foundation : Monument construction. A straight-sided hole : was dug to 1 m depth through gravel to reach a : hard "iron-pan" gravel layer. The edges of : the hole were undercut at its bottom. Four : 3 m by 40 mm diameter type 304 stainless steel : rods were driven at about 45 degree inclination : through the bottom of the hole until they were : below the level of the original ground surface, : so as to form an open pyramid structure. The : bottom of the hole was filled with reinforced : concrete then a 2.4 m long by 40 cm O.D. : concrete tube was placed vertically in the : hole, between the protruding stainless rods. : Reinforced concrete was poured to fill the rest : of the hole external to the tube and the inside : of the tube. A 16 cm diameter stainless plate : with protruding 5/8"-11 screw was set : horizontal in the top of the concrete. The top : concrete surface of the pillar was deliberately : made uneven to reduce resonance effects between : the top of the pillar and the antenna. The : surface of the stainless plate serves as the : height reference point. The 2 m height of the : pillar was chosen to clear the steel mesh : fence around the meteorological enclosure in : which the site is situated. : The concrete for the pillar was poured on June : 11 and was allowed to cure for more than 3 : weeks before the installation of the GPS : equipment and start of recording. Foundation Depth : 1.0 m to bottom of concrete; approx. 2.2 m : to bottom of rods. Marker Description : 5/8 inch thread in centre of 160 mm diameter : stainless steel plate set horizontally in top : of 400 mm diameter concrete pillar. Date Installed : 1998-06-11 Geologic Characteristic : The site is located on a terrace of well : consolidated mid-late Pleistocene till and : outwash gravels. Bedrock Type : Sedimentary Bedrock Condition : Well consolidated below 1 m depth. Fracture Spacing : Not applicable. Fault zones nearby : Yes. Distance/activity : Additional Information : 2.
