Dear Colleagues,

I received the email below from Gerd soliciting ideas from the IGS
working group chairs for sessions at the May IGS workshop in Darmstadt.
I am not sure that we could fill a "full" session, but perhaps a position
paper on some changes to how the IGS data centers do business would be
in order. Recently I have had discussions on a few topics:

- changing the compression scheme utilized in the data centers from
UNIX compress (.Z) to gzip (.gz) or something else
- modifying the filename structure for data (and products) to reflect
versioning thus allowing us and users to easily track replacement files,
etc.

I don't know how much our user community, particularly the analysis
centers, are aware of these discussions. We would, of course, have to
have the support of these users prior to any such drastic changes. So,
this workshop may be a good opportunity to write a position paper
detailing the reasoning behind the changes, description of the changes,
plans for a transition, and timeline.

I would appreciate your thoughts on such a topic at the workshop and
your willingness to participate in the position paper and the workshop
itself with a paper/poster. Any other ideas are, of course, welcome.
So we don't bore the audience with alot of details, this session may
lend itself to one oral presentation discussing the paper with detailed
information available through posters.

Gerd has ambitiously asked for comments and ideas for the workshop
by December 30. Any thoughts you have on a data center-related session
that could be communicated to me as soon as possible would be appreciated.

Happy holidays!
Carey.

Subject: IGS Workshop Darmstadt - Call for Session Ideas

Dear WG Chairs,

To go for a more detailed planning for the next IGS Workshop in
Darmstadt we would like to ask you for your support and ideas (until
the end this year: 30-Dec).

As already announced main points of the WS should include:
- Implementation of GGOS within the IGS
- Multi-constellation; Modernisation of GPS; GNSS
- Absolute antenna phase centre

We should have for each session (if applicable) a Position Paper. It is
foreseen to have only invited oral presentation and posters. All
session chairs will have to contact invited speakers to ensure a high
quality content of their session.

I would like to ask you if you would propose to consider in the planning
a session devoted to the topic of your Working Group. In this case,
please, define the working title of the session and make proposals for
the chairs. You may consider already now invited speakers. We will have
Chair and co-chair for each session and it may be good if at least one
of them comes from outside the IGS.

If you have any idea for more general sessions your proposals are
welcome too.

The main goal of all the sessions should be to contribute to
improvements within the IGS - to improve the products for the
scientific community, the praxis and society in general.

Attached you find first ideas how a program may look like. Any proposal
on chairs for the already listed session proposal are also welcome.

We are also still looking for a nice title of the workshop.

Best regards

Gerd

All session titles are 'working titles', the final titles will be chosen
by the selected chairs.
